You are looking at the manual for Wusage 6.0. This product is three years old! Check out Wusage 8.0 and its remarkable new features. |
What's new in wusage 6.0?
Important: some of these new features won't "kick in" unless you turn them on by setting options in your configuration file and configure your server properly, so be sure to take a look at this list.- A graphical user interface based on your web browser! Wusage 6.0 contains a built-in web server for the sole purpose of providing a friendly way to configure the program, run your statistics and browse the results.
- 6.0 Remembers where it "left off." You can rotate log files out right after running the program with 6.0. The new -n option can be used to override this behavior, causing the program to behave like wusage 5.0.
- The new directories option presents a breakdown by subdirectory of activity on the web server.
- The manyservers option analyzes many virtual servers together, constructing complete URLs to those servers based to the server name field (this option is useful for those who log many virtual servers to one file).
- Support for the "extended log format" standardized by the W3C and implemented by Microsoft IIS 4.0.
- Support for email reporting.
- Support for spreadsheet-like "functions," such as clickthrough rates, in the totals and totalsgroup options.
- Support for "cookies," user- identifying strings which are logged by the Apache web server, among others.
- Optional breakdown by document of all referring URLs for each document on the server.
- Support for analyzing sites, referring URLs, and more with the totals and totalsgroup options, instead of just documents. This makes it possible to create historical charts of information formerly only available through the "unique" report, which is now obsolete.
- Able to report trails that contain specific documents.
- Support for alphabetically sorted reports.
- Automatically keeps only a certain number of reports, if desired.
- Percentages are included in all reports for which this is appropriate.
- Can chart second- or third-level domains instead of top-level domains, if desired.
- User agents (browsers) can be grouped together easily.
- Referring sites report added to help clarify the referring URLs report.
- Visits and trails are now analyzed more efficiently, using much less memory than in 5.0.
- HTTP transfer, FTP transfer, and gzip compression are all supported when retrieving logs! No need to uncompress large log files and/or download them separately to your hard drive. Note that gzip is not identical to zip (however, free gzip and gunzip tools are widely available).
- Internet search keywords report added, based on referring URL data and a configurable set of templates to match various popular Internet search services.
