If turned on, the referrersbydocument option indicates that wusage should output information about the referring URLs which led users to each document on the server. For this reason, the referrersbydocument option is both very informative and rather demanding of disk space. You may wish to use the referrers report instead if you do not want a fairly large report to be generated. most frequently accessed referrersbydocument on the server.

If the referrersbydocument option is set, and referring URL information is present in the server log, then links to a list of referring documents will be generated next to each mention of any document in the documents and directories reports. In order to keep the size of the report manageable, these links point to the appropriate section of a separate file which contains the complete list of referrers.

To further limit the size of the resulting report, the topreferrersbydocument option is provided to limit the number of referring URLs listed for each document. It is also strongly advisable to use the ignorereferrers option to filter out uninteresting referring documents, such as documents on the same server.
