VERY IMPORTANT:

The users report is only useful if your server log contains "cookies" which uniquely identify users. See the server configuration tips section of the manual for more information.

If turned on, the Chart Top Users (Determined By Cookies) ^(users) option indicates that wusage should output information about users accessing the server with browsers that accept cookies. If the Chart Top Users (Determined By Cookies) ^(users) option does not appear or is set to off, no cookie-related information will be included in reports. If the users option is set to nopie, no pie chart will be generated. If your site is accessed by a wide variety of users, you probably will want to turn off the pie chart, since no one user will represent a large enough portion of traffic to qualify for a slice. This option is useful to determine which cookie-accepting users accessed the server most often. The Chart Top Users (Determined By Cookies) ^(users) option defaults to off.

Many users do not accept cookies. Because of this, many web servers will log millions of "one-shot" cookies that never appear again. In order to better account for such users, Wusage 8.0 P14 and above do not include single-use cookies in the users report. However, Wusage 8.0 P14 and above do offer a scaled unique visitors figure, which is equal to the number of cookies used at least twice, plus the total number of accesses made by users not accepting cookies divided by the average number of accesses made by users who did accept cookies. The resulting figure is a highly useful projection of true unique visitors. We recommend logging user-identifying cookies in order to take advantage of this feature.
