To reach this option in the configuration file editor, follow these steps:

1. Edit Configuration
2. Configure Reports...
3. Stolen Images and Other Objects (Requires Referrers)...
4. Chart Stolen Images and Other Objects

Description

The Chart Stolen Images and Other Objects ^(stolen) report reveals cases in which your images and other non-page objects have been embedded in, or directly linked to by, pages on other websites. This does NOT mean that the files have been stolen in any legal sense. It does, however, mean that your content is being displayed, heard or shown outside the context of your own web pages.

For example, if an outside site places this code in a popular web page:

<img src="http://www.yoursite.com/yourpicture.jpg">

Then your image will be displayed thousands of times, possibly without any attribution or permission on your part. This report is extremely valuable in identifying such situations.

If the report appears to contain references to pages on your own site, you may need to adjust your Valid Names For This Virtual Server ^{(servernames)}) option.

Since linking to your web pages is a normal, acceptable and even desirable action for outside webmasters to take, this report includes only external references to your non-web-page objects, such as images. This is done by comparing the URL to the definition of the pages object type. For more information, see Object Types ^(subreports).

Please note: because web browsers do not always accurately report referring URLs, and because web pages change frequently, it is very important to personally verify information in this report by visiting the external website in question before making a complaint.

If the Chart Stolen Images and Other Objects ^(stolen) option is set to nopie, no pie chart will be generated.

The Chart Stolen Images and Other Objects ^(stolen) option defaults to on. However, this report will be empty unless you have referring URL information in your web server logs.
