Wusage 8.0 Manual
servernames Option
1. Edit Configuration
2. Valid Names For This Virtual Server...
If you prefer to manually edit your configuration files, use the following syntax for this option:
Example
servernames #The current, preferred name of the site. Always list this first. www.currentname.com #An old name still present in log files. www.oldname.com #IIS server name. Wusage 8.0 can discover this automatically if the #program is running on the server. When Wusage is not running on the #server, it is important to include this. W3SVC3 end servernamesDescription
The Valid Names For This Virtual Server (servernames) option is used to specify the valid domain names, IP addresses and/or NT server names for the specific virtual domain that Wusage will analyze.
IIS users: Wusage 8.0 will automatically discover the W3SVCx name of the site when it is running on the same computer as
the web server. When Wusage is not running on the same computer it is
very important to specify the W3SVCx name (such as W3SVC1) as well as
the domain name (such as www.mysite.com).
Wusage 8.0 looks for virtual server identifiers in each of the following places:
- For Microsoft IIS 3.0: in the standard place for this field under Microsoft IIS 3.0. This is a standard feature of Microsoft IIS 3.0 when virtual domains are being served.
- For Microsoft IIS 4.0 and up: in the appropriate fields of the W3C extended log format. Be sure to turn on all of the optional W3C logging fields! By default, IIS does not log this information. You can turn it on through the IIS control panels. For more information, see Server Configuration Tips.
- At the end of each line of the log file, after all of the normal "common log format" fields, optionally in quotes. Wusage will look for this field among any "extra" fields in your log. See the server configuration tips section for more information.
- In the almost never used "user ident" field (not the
authenticated user name field, which is often used). Some
servers can be configured to log the virtual domain name here.
Wusage will recognize this if the servername option is present
and this field contains a name with at least one dot (
.).
