Wusage 8.0 Manual
manyservers Option
1. Edit Configuration
2. Analyze ALL Virtual Servers Found in Log File
If you prefer to manually edit your configuration files, use the following syntax for this option:
Example
manyservers onDescription
The Analyze ALL Virtual Servers Found in Log File (manyservers) option is used to specify that Wusage should recognize the virtual domain name field and reconstruct a complete URL. For instance, if the virtual domain name field contains:
www.foo.comAnd the URL is:
/graphics/bar.gifThe URL will be rewritten as:
http://www.foo.com/graphics/bar.gifThis allows many virtual domains to be analyzed as part of one Wusage configuration. This is useful as a means of providing an overview for the system administrator. If you wish to provide separate reports for each virtual server, use the ONE Virtual Server to Analyze (servername) option in each of many separate configuration files instead.
VERY USEFUL NOTE: the Chart Documents by Directory (directories) report will show the overall usage for each virtual server in this configuration!
Wusage will look for the virtual domain name in the following places:
- For Microsoft IIS: in the standard place for this field under Microsoft IIS; this is a standard feature of Microsoft IIS when virtual domains are being served. Wusage 6.0 can also find this field in "extended log format" logs produced by IIS 4.0, but ONLY if the field is actually present.
- At the end of each line of the log file, after all of the normal "common log format" fields, optionally in quotes. Wusage will look for this field among any "extra" fields in your log. See the server configuration tips section for more information.
- In the almost never used "user ident" field (not the
authenticated user name field, which is often used). Some
servers can be configured to log the virtual domain name here.
Wusage will recognize this if the servername option is present
and this field contains a name with at least one dot (
.).
