ignoreuseragents Option
1. Edit Configuration
2. Configure Filters...
3. Ignored User Agents (Browsers and Robots)...
If you prefer to manually edit your configuration files, use the following syntax for this option:
Example
#Ignore accesses by the Architext Spider web-indexing robot *ArchitextSpider*Description
Web servers are frequently accessed by automatic web-exploring "robots" and indexing programs. While extremely useful, these programs can access your server many times in a short period, resulting in unlikely statistics in Wusage reports.
Some of these programs voluntarily identify themselves by indicating a particular "user agent" (program name) when visiting your server. When this is the case, it is possible to filter them out of your statistics completely by using the Ignored User Agents (Browsers and Robots) (ignoreuseragents) option. When this is not the case, you may be able to identify them by reviewing the Chart Top Sites (sites) report to locate the most frequent visitor sites, which are often automated programs. You can then use the Ignored Sites (ignoresites) option to filter out accesses from those sites.
Accesses from user agents which
match any of the patterns listed
for the Ignored User Agents (Browsers and Robots) (ignoreuseragents) option will be
ignored completely by Wusage. Each character
of the site name is matched against the pattern.
An * in the pattern matches any
number of characters in the site name.
Patterns have additional features, including support for regular expressions; fo
r more information about
patterns, see the Patterns and Regular Expressions
section. If the Ignored User Agents (Browsers and Robots) (ignoreuseragents)
option is absent, no user agents will be ignored.
