Wusage 7.0 Manual
What's New in Wusage 7.0?
- Our new report macro language allows you to completely control the format and structure of reports. Place reports in a single file, or in a separate file; change the wording of our new executive summary report or remove it altogether with ease. Start by making small modifications to our own standard report macros, then see what you can do! See the Report Macro Language section.
- Access to all reports through a single "Calendar of Reports. See the Interpreting the Reports of Wusage section.
- "Rewrite rules" for URLs, sites and more. These are extremely useful when documents have been moved on the web server. Make the previous and current locations "count" as the same document! See the Rewrite Rules (rewrite) option.
- Support for sorting your log files on the fly. Do you have log files which are not in chronologically ascending order? Wusage 7.0 will be able to deal with them effectively. See the Sort Log Files First (sortlogs) option.
- Year-to-year comparison charts are now available. Easily see seasonal patterns and annual growth. See the Items to be Charted (totalsgroup) option.
- In addition to access counts and bytes-transferred information, visit counts are now available for documents, visitor sites, web browsers, operating systems and more. Take advantage of our improved visit modeling and reporting to produce more accurate statistics. See the Interpreting the Reports of Wusage section.
- Our new "file types" report breaks down HTML, GIF, JPEG and more. See the Chart Top File Types (Extensions) (types) report.
- The new Entry Pages report reveals what page your visitors typically access first. Easily "drill down" to a list of referring URLs on other sites for each entry page! See the Chart Top Entry Pages (entrypages) report.
- The Exit Pages report reveals where your users chose to leave the site. See the Chart Top Exit Pages (exitpages) report.
- Improved graphics. 3D antialiased pie charts and an enhanced bar chart legend improve the presentation of your statistics and make it easier to interpret information. See the (interpreting) section.
- Alphabetical order, sorting by accesses, bytes or visits, and the inclusion of bytes-transferred and visit count information can now be set on a per-report basis. See almost any report, such as the Chart Documents by Directory (directories) report.
- Multiple log file sources can be specified. Want to automatically download log files by FTP from four different mirror sites? No problem! See the Log Files and Directories (logfiles) option.
- The new Operating Systems report breaks down the most popular operating systems, revealing the percentage of users who prefer Microsoft Windows (tm), MacOS (tm) and the X Window System. See the Chart Top Operating Systems (os) report.
- Easily generate daily, weekly, monthly, and now quarterly, annual and cumulative summary reports as part of a single Wusage configuration. Just one run produces them all! See the Daily Reports (daily), Weekly Reports (weekly), Monthly Reports (monthly), Quarterly Reports (quarterly), Annual Reports (annual) and Summary Reports (summary) options.
- Reasonable, easily understood filenames for all reports and other generated files for easier integration with your own software. Take a peek in your report directory after updating statistics with Wusage 7.0.
- Support for WUFTPD log file analysis.
- All reports have been moved to individual files. See the Interpreting the Reports of Wusage section.
- An "executive summary" has been added for managers in a hurry. See the Interpreting the Reports of Wusage section.
- "Regular expressions" are permitted wherever patterns are currently accepted. Our pattern syntax is still available. See the Patterns and Regular Expressions section.
- Negative matches are allowed for both regular expressions and patterns. This is an easy way to count, for instance, all URLs that do not contain the suffixes .gif and .jpg. See the Patterns and Regular Expressions section.
- In addition to the FTP log file access supported by Wusage 6.0, Wusage 7.0 adds log file access via HTTP. Our special "every web page is a directory" model makes HTTP log file browsing just as straightforward as FTP browsing. See the section.
- Fast, multiple-process DNS lookups, with a user-configurable time limit for each attempt and a disk-based cache of previous DNS lookup information that lasts as long as you wish. Available on Unix platforms, with NT support "in the works." See the section.
- A 7-day moving average is provided in the accesses by day report for easier interpretation. See the Report on Traffic by Day (days) option.
- HTTP "cookies" are supported in the W3C log format (IIS 4.0), in addition to the existing Apache support. See the Cookie Name That Identifies Visitors (Leave Blank to Use All Cookies) (singlecookie) option and the (userS) report.
- "Epoch in progress" figures in history graphs are now scaled, rather than discarded. See the Interpreting the Reports of Wusage section.
- Search keywords are now available on a per-server basis. See the Show Top Search Keywords By Search Server Used (searchkeywordsbyserver) option.
- Search servers are now ranked by frequency of use. Show Top Internet Search Servers (searchservers) option.
