Looking at it differently, the "top" page of the WBW is accessed 2,000 times per day by 1,700 unique hosts, yielding about 60,000 distinct impressions per month. These latter numbers are the more "honest" figures; most sites just quote hits. Of course, several or many users may share a host, and the page may be cached by a proxy server that provides all web access for an entire organization, so the last figures are actually pessimistic."Is sponsorship cost effective?"

You can purchase 60,000 impressions at a discount price of $600. That's a price per impression of just one cent. You can recoup that investment by selling just 24 units of a $25 product -- which means that only .04% of the users who see your ad must purchase your product. To make a 500% profit, you'll only need to sell your product to .2% (one-fifth of one percent) of the people who see your ad!
Compare to Yahoo: on February 23rd, 1996, Yahoo quoted a minimum price of one-and-a-half cents per impression. Targeted advertising costs more. That means you only break even selling a $25 product when .06% of impressions result in a purchase. That means the World Birthday Web can be a better advertising bargain.

"How long will 60,000 impressions last?"
About a month, if we have no other advertisers at that time. Since we typically have more than one advertiser, your 60,000 impressions will probably be distributed over two or more months.
What you Get
When you sponsor the WBW, you get an image banner (which must be NO MORE THAN 320 by 64 pixels) at the top of the page, with alternate text for non-graphical browsers. The banner will, of course, link to your own web page. Your ad will be featured in rotation with other current sponsors, so the user sees just one ad at a time. Your ad will remain visible on the Birthday Web until all of your impressions have been delivered, at which time you will receive email notification.If you provide us with a logo, the desired alternate text, and the URL to link the advertisement to, preferably electronically, we'll take care of the rest. Your logo should be exactly 320x64. We do not offer graphic design services.
Since ads appear in rotation, there is no need to wait for current sponsorships to end before placing your order.
