Les Bizarrables
Jaferre Secedes
JAFERRE:
Who did this deed?
Who took my story from me?
Who has unlawfully sold
What I had meant to be free?
It said, "Whatever you do,
Don't swindle or duplicate."
Next thing I knew,
It was appearing on "Slate".
All it would take
Was a quick "May I, please..."
Easily wroth,
I'm as easy to appease.
Damned if I'll live in the den of a thief!
Damned if I'll yield and repeal my ukase.
It is the law, and the law is not mocked!
I'll cut my prose off in spite of this place.
There is nothing on earth more unfair,
Than to pilfer the works of Jaferre.
But must I now allow this fan
To hold my hand in slavery?
This faceless fan whose brain was stunted,
He preys on my mind,
Consumes my dreaming.
He should not terrify me so,
Nor haunt my nights.
It was my right to kith entail.
Instead I write but cannot mail.
My resolve falls apart.
Can two wrongs make a right?
Shall the sins of the craven
Kill the souls of the wight?
And must this empty-headed lout
Outweigh the clout of all my peers?
"Your heart is here! Do not dissemble!"
The will of the wisps and wraiths and shadows...
Will I be revenant as well?
Or just vamoose?
I fear a broken golden egg
Has nearly cooked the golden goose.
I am reading, and I quail
At the posts so flat and stale,
As I stare into the void
And I fail to fail to bail.
I'll secede now from this froup.
From this froup without a clue.
There is nothing I can do.
Nothing left but pressing 'u'...
